If a provider will no longer use EPCS services, EPCS privileges can be revoked. Revoking a provider’s EPCS privileges will prohibit a provider from transmitting controlled substances from any given account, but will not effect their Exostar account. If a provider is revoked, the provider can also regranted and refinalized, meaning their EPCS status will be reactivated and the provider can then transmit controlled Rxs. Revoking EPCS privileges should be done with careful consideration! If there are ANY questions or concerns about revoking EPCS privileges contact your EMR BEFORE ANY ACTION IS TAKEN.
Revoke a Provider
To revoke a provider, go to the Admin tab in NewCrop. Find the Section on Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances and click on the Prescriber Registration and EPCS Setup link:
Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Revoke EPCS Access button. It does not matter if any names are checked or unchecked as this will not affect who will be revoked. Click Revoke EPCS Access:
Once clicked, NewCrop will display any provider who can be revoked. Any person that is on the list can click to revoke a provider. Click Select next to the name of the provider you would like to revoke:
Once this is done, the provider’s status will show the status Revoked, meaning the provider is now ready to finalize the revoking process*:
*If the next (finalize) step is not completed, the provider will still be able to transmit controlled Rxs. All steps must be completed to revoke EPCS
To complete the revoking process, the provider to be revoked must login and click the Revoke EPCS Access button:
The provider to be revoked will see their name in the Finalize EPCS Revoked Privileges box. Clicks Select. This will open the box for the provider to enter their OTP, click Authenticate and finalize the revoke:
Once this step is completed, the provider is fully revoked, and this status will show. The provider will be able to transmit non-controlled Rxs but will not be allowed to transmit controlled Rxs (unless regranted and refinalized).
REGRANT AND REFINALIZE A PROVIDER PREVIOUSLY REVOKED
If a previously revoked provider needs to transmit controlled Rxs again, the provider can be regranted and refinalized.
The provider must first be granted by someone other than themselves. Any person’s name that appears on the list on the EPCS page can regrant the provider. The grantor will come to the Prescriber Registration and EPCS Setup link on the Admin tab in NewCrop and scroll to the bottom to find the Regrant EPCS Access. Click the Regrant EPCS Access button:
The Grantor will then select the provider that needs to be granted and then logs out:
The provider must log in to finalize their EPCS status. The provider will come to the Prescriber Registration and EPCS Setup link on the Admin tab in NewCrop and scroll to the bottom to find the Finalize step. The provider’s name will show with Select to the left. Click Select:
Once the provider clicks Select, the provider will enter the OTP to finalize EPCS privileges. Once the OTP is entered, click Authenticate:
Once completed, the provider will show a Finalized status, meaning the provider has EPCS privileges.
